The huge harbour makes Sydney what it is and there is no better way to discover the soul of the city than following the harbourside walks.
In their entirety, the harbour paths of Sydney stretch for 315 km and follow the entire harbour from Broken Bay to Royal National Park via the Parramatta foreshores on the ‘Sydney Harbour & Coast Walk’. Launched in 2011, it takes 30 days.
One will be rewarded with varied walking from bushland to city streets, superb harbour views, pretty beaches and a vast array of tempting cafes and restaurants.
However an easier option is the 80 km Bondi to Manly section, although one can just as easily dip into parts of it. It will introduce you to some of the most iconic beaches in Sydney, take you past places of historical interest, prime real estate, varied gastronomic options and always with stunning views.
I am working on the Bondi – Manley section, although not as fast as I had intended: it is so easy to get sidetracked by a lovely beach, a tempting pool or just a good coffee shop!

A gentle stroll with lovely swimming beaches, good cafes and a historic cemetery.
Quite a lot of roadwork on this one but the end towards Watson’s Bay is stunning.
